Meet the 2018 Social Media Team

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run has named four runners to be this year’s “Credit Union Cherry Blossom Race Ambassadors.” These individuals will be telling the world all about their race experiences on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and their blogs. Congratulations to this year's ambassadors, and thanks to everyone who submitted an application - it was very difficult to choose! Read all about our new Ambassadors, and the rest of our Social Media Team, below!

Dale, Race Ambassador

Dale was never much for sports of any kind. As a young man, he barely passed his U.S. Coast Guard boot camp physical fitness test...they let him in anyway, and he didn’t give the idea of working out much thought for several decades. That continued until 2010 when beset by a variety of (mostly) minor medical maladies, he looked in a mirror, didn’t like what he saw, and said no more. He began working with a trainer, started to lose weight and build stamina. He began running on a regular basis in the brisk Spring air of March 2013. That Fall, he ran in his first 5K, decided it was fun and rewarding, and has been working since then on improving his endurance and form. Through various ups and downs, he’s since run in multiple 5K’s, several 10K’s, one 20K, and this last September a half marathon near his home in the Shenandoah Valley. This will mark his third Credit Union Cherry Blossom race, and he hopes to significantly improve his pace.

Originally a native of Michigan, he’s lived with his family in Northern Virginia for just over 25 years. He works as a research director for a high-tech advisory firm. During his time in the Coast Guard he worked as a photojournalist, and still maintains a love of writing and photography. He writes and posts photos from runs on his blog, and can be found on twitter and Instagram.

Deborah, Race Ambassador

Deborah grew up in Northern Virginia where she currently resides with her husband and 2 teens. Deborah is the Moms Run This Town Chapter Leader in McLean where you will find her running & cavorting with her mom squad. Deborah also coaches Girls On The Run and writes for Women’s Running Magazine.

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom was her first 10 mile run in 2008. Despite the pouring rain that year, she fell in love with long distance running and this will be her 7th CUCB race. Find Deborah on her blog, Confessions of a Mother Runner, and on Instagram.

Laetitia-Laure, Race Ambassador

Laetitia-Laure is still learning to love running. Following a period of personal and professional setbacks last year, she decided to take up running to make a positive lifestyle change. She entered the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Miler lottery and having won a slot, started training on her own. Since then, she’s kept running and while she's still the slowest in her running groups, she recently completed the Disneyland Paris half marathon – while wearing a mermaid costume no less – and the Marine Corps Marathon 10K. Laetitia is looking forward to running the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Miler again this year but is determined to actually follow a training plan this time and also have fun in the process! Originally from Paris, France, she hopes to run the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris as her first marathon in 2019. Until then, you can follow Laetitia’s training progress on Twitter, Instagram, and Strava as well as on her blog French Twist D.C.

Sarah Beth, Race Ambassador

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run is the confluence of all things Sarah Beth loves: running, spring, D.C. and cherry blossoms! Sarah Beth is a lifelong runner who has competed in five marathons, more than 15 half marathons and loads of 10K and 5K races. This will be Sarah Beth's second Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile race. A Cincinnati-area native, Sarah Beth has embraced running in the District and has fallen in love with running on the National Mall, among many other places. When she's not out pounding the pavement, Sarah Beth enjoys traveling, swimming, reading and walking her dog. She's a senior digital editor at, the website for WTOP Radio. You can find her blog here. Follow her on Twitter and Instagram, too.

Courtenay (Coco), Social Media Team, Twitter

Courtenay is an attorney and Virginia native who was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, and still lives there today with her husband Beau. She started running after she graduated from law school, and has been hooked on the endorhpins ever since. Her favorite race distance is 10 miles, so she feels lucky to live in the D.C. area where there are several fantastic 10 mile races throughout the year, including the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run of course. Courtenay blogs at Running With Perseverance. Follow her on Twitter and Instagram.

Elizabeth, Social Media Team, Fundraising

Elizabeth is a writing mom on the run and has been on the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile run social media team since 2012-2013, when she was a Social Runner. Originally from Maryland, Elizabeth now runs up and down the hills of Pittsburgh, PA, where things (like rivers) come in threes. She loves triathlons, has published three books and has three sons! She runs her own writing business and finds that a good long run is often the source of her creative ideas. Elizabeth loves being married to a great runner who was a finisher at the 2013 Boston Marathon. Follow her on Twitter and Instagram.

Heather, Social Media Team, Instagram

Heather grew up in Northern Virginia and now resides across the Potomac in Maryland. At Heather’s first Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, she manned the Memorial Bridge as a credit union volunteer. Watching all of the runners inspired her to start the Couch to 5K program and build up to the 10 mile distance, proudly running her first CUCB in 2012. Still to this day, she considers it her best (and favorite) race ever. Heather blogs about her running and other adventures at 3 Black Cat Co. You can follow her on Twitter and Instagram.

Kim, Social Media Coordinator

Kim has been running for more than 25 years and coaches with Potomac River Running (PRR) in Reston. She is actively engaged with the PRR Training program, Moms Run This Town, Reston Runners, and followers of her blog, Kim Runs Miles With Smiles. Her proudest running accomplishment was running the 2015 Marine Corps Marathon (with a negative split!). When she isn’t running, she is busy as a mom or tackling the nation’s health care issues in her job as a health care services researcher for a non-profit association. Follow Kim on Twitter.
