5K Run-Walk

For everyone’s safety, running with a dog, baby stroller, racing stroller, or headphones is NOT permitted.

The 5K Run-Walk is designed for individuals who don't wish to attempt 10 miles, or for walkers and relaxed-pace runners who feel they would take longer than 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete 10 miles. All 5K entrants receive the same amenities as the 10 milers, including the official race t-shirt, their overall times and places in the event, and post-race food and drink. All runners will be scored on net times. Only the first male and first female finisher will receive recognition; there will be no other 5K awards. All 5K runners must finish and be off the course no later than 10:05 A.M.

Race Registration

The field will be filled slightly differently this year, as when the race was cancelled in 2020, many registered runners opted to defer their entry and get a Guaranteed Entry in 2021 rather than taking a refund. These runners will receive a Guaranteed Entry Link that will enable them to register for this year's race and pay the entry fee starting on June 1, 2021.

The rest of the field will be filled by Lottery. The lottery will also open on June 1, 2021 and run through 11:59 PM on June 13. Virtual Run Registration

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom will also have a Virtual Run this year! The event has become known as the "Runner's Rite of Spring," and we don't want to have our runners miss out on running among the cherry blossoms at their peak. The Virtual Run will be held from March 20 - April 11, 2021. We hope that many of our runners will participate in the Virtual Run, and then come back to join us in person to enjoy the "Runner's Delight of Fall" on Sept. 12. Switching to the 5K

After the lottery, runners who were accepted into the Ten Mile Run may decide that they would prefer to run the 5K instead, whether because their training didn't go as planned, injury, illness or a myriad of other reasons. This is perfectly fine, and we will post a Switch Form here starting in July so that you can let us know that you would like to change races. Those who fill out the form before July 31 will be issued a 5K number at packet pickup. If you fill out the Switch Form after July 31, you will still receive a 10 Mile bib number. Just wear that number but report to the 5K starting line and run or walk the 5K.

The course and staging area are expected to be similar in 2021, but construction in the DC area may necessitate changes in the layout for 2021. Updated maps will be posted as soon as they can be finalized.


Participant short-sleeved T-shirts (cotton or 50-50) are given to all 10 Mile and 5K entrants. At registration, participants are given the option of purchasing a short-sleeved Performance upgrade shirt from ASICS in place of the non-technical short sleeved shirt.


Post-race refreshments following the race will be available in the 5K staging area.
